From Navigli to Sant’Ambrogio

Mucche e Buoi: much more than a simple deli shop!

You are walking in Corso di Porta Ticinese, on the left side of the sidewalk with Piazza del Duomo on your back. At each step, a different shopwindow: one displays shoes, another t-shirts, another CDs and another… sausages. Yes, you read that right, sausages. Every time we pass by Mucche e Buoi, we are amazed by how this store is in contrast with its neighbors and by how it incredibly fits in the middle of a musical instrument store and of a clothing one. Moreover, Mucche e Buoi has conquered this space in 1860 and continues year after year to attract its customers by exposing charcuterie and succulent pieces of meat with their prices in plain sight.

Looking at the window, the unaware walker will think that he is facing a simple deli. Well, this is not the case: the client, in fact, can choose whether to take home with him the products he sees in the shopwindow, eat at the big, steel table placed in front of the counter or eat seated at one of the tables. If you decide to sit down, the waiters will give you a menu in the shape of a bell, the symbol of the restaurant, with an infinite number of proposals. A couple of dishes that have bewitched us are the tartare with powdered pistachio and pine nuts and the fillet with grilled vegetables and cream cheese.

Get ready to witness the parade of people passing in front of the window with their mouths open, try to concentrate on your plate (it won’t be difficult) and prepare to a carnivorous night!
